The advent of Vivian's mobility really keeps me from getting online! Just when I get a chance to sit, she darts off across the room, looking for trouble. And she's speedy! I have childproofed the really dangerous stuff, but I refuse turn my house into a padded cell. So I have to occasionally distract her from things like the glass topped table. My justification theory is that it is good training for when I take them out in public. They will know that they can't grope and chew on every little thing they see. So far so good; Evie does pretty well when we visit firends or go shopping... though that could have more to do with her dainty nature and less to do with my slackass childproofing efforts.

We had the worst, most craptastic camping trip last weekend to Big Sur. Its was awful. Andrew took 2 days off for it too. I should have foreseen the awfulness coming when we went to pick up the Airstream (we park it in a secured RV lot in the East Bay) and realized we had forgotten the keys to it. It was just downhill from there, culminating in us returning home a day early with colds and flu and a hole punched in the bumper of our new car. Let us not speak of it ever again.

Vinatage trailer rally is this weekend in Alameda AND James Ellroy's Black Dahlia film opens on Friday. Please lord, don't let it suck.

And while I'm at it, please lord don't let Kayne get kicked off the runway tonight. Take Laura. She's always wearing those deep V-neck dresses which are not flattering after you have had 5 kids. Why doesn't Tim tell her "Laura, I'm a bit concerned about your décolleté." At least tape those things up if you are not going to wear a bra! Maybe tonight's challenge will be to construct a bra for Laura. Last week's preview did mention making something for "two surprise guests".

Evie started preschool last week! Its so cute, they have little pink uniforms. I got her some matching pink Chuck Taylor All Stars and she is the shiznit. She's going through a little seperation anxiety, but improving and claims to be enjoying it and usually doesnt want to leave. The teachers told me she is extremely eloquent for her age and has "very good table manners". Can I tell you how proud that made me? I think I was prouder than when she stopped wearing diapers. Seriously. I mean, every kid gets potty trained eventually. But few toddlers have exemplary table manners!

God, Im really bragging about my children, arent I? I cant help it! Just look at them!

A Halloween preview. The Sprout is going to be a North American Carpet Turtle.

You are cracking me up about Laura and her disconcerting cleavage! I am watching PR right now - they are about the do the elimination! Please don't kick of Kayne! I'd happily loose Uli or Jeffrey.

aw, I'm sorry about your bumper etc.!!! But your airstream is way cool.

And your kids have sass.

And we bought the balcony-proofing mesh and it works great. And we bought some one-piece anti-toddler cabinet proofers.

We are also doing the not-total baby proofing! My kid keeps banging her head. But here's the proof that it works: she recently fell "sideways" to avoid knocking her noggin, and I realized it was a PLANNDED FALL.

I just visited your site and hope that you can help me. I tried the "email you", but there could be no such address found, so will put it on the blog.

Years ago, I had a needlework shop -- back in the 60's and 70's. I knitted a dress -- and loved it. I wore it for several years and then one of my daughters "finished" wearing it. I have copies of most of the books and patterns that I sold in the shop; however, the ONE pattern that I now need has escaped me. I want to do this dress again.

I believe the pattern was by Pauline Denham and used the cotton nubby yarn, Chalet. It was a one-sheet leaflet (ten cents) and I believe it was printed in black and white. The dress is sleeveless and a sheath. Plain stockinet stitch but with a diamond pattern knitted in contrast about the hips. The diamonds were large -- probably they were about 15 to 18 inches tall and about 8 inches across. There were only four of them--two and two in back--reaching all the way round the dress.

If you should happen to have this pattern or know where I might obtain it, I would so very much appreciate it. Thanks you. Pattilu Key, Texas.

They have preschool uniforms? Do the boys have blue ones?
