Holiday Stuffs
I just taught block printing to 125 elementary school children at the annual Holiday Craft Fair. I came home and drank two Crown Royal and Sprites back to back.
Check it out:
Paint your own Russian Nesting Dolls set! The monster designs are cute, but I am going to paint them to match my tattoos.

Spring!
Today was going to be pseudo-polynesian dinner and tiki drinks for "Easter Island Sunday", but we have the flu instead. We look cute though, huh?

Greetings from Wawona
We are doing SPRING CLEANING up at the mountain cabin this weekend. Had new awesome red carpet installed, Andrew cleaned the koi pond, I framed a picture of Teddy Roosevelt and John Muir, and got rid of a bunch of furniture on craigslist that the previous owner had left at the house. This has been a recurring theme of my last two homes - other people's stuff left behind - like I don't have enough crap of my own! Get your unwanted shit out of my house! Grrrr!
We took time for a picnic in Wawona today by the Merced River and saw a beautiful coyote. The weather was 70+ degrees and the girls played in the mud with their little friend Andres. Great day.

Holiday Photo blogging
I am so overwhelmed with all the work we are doing on this old house (rotted wood joist repair, stucco removal and repair, various collapsed ceilings, leaking roof, a river running through the basement, etc etc) so Im going to update you with pictures instead. Everyone likes pictures more than reading anyway, right? Right.

Happy New Year from Sentinel Beach, Yosemite NP

Xmas Fundraiser at Filoli in Woodside. This overexposed photo is pretty much the reason I asked "Santa" for a speedlight for my camera for Xmas.

Evie in her Gingerbread girl dress, inspired by Made with Love by Hannah.
(Can't blame my lack of speedlight for the bad photo, this was via iPhone)

Evie & her Snowperson. Pine straw makes a great smile.

Just barely enough snow in our yard to sled up at the mountains

Doggies weren't so into the snow, as you can see.
Martha Stewart came out with this "Woodland Holiday" line of decorations which was all Bavarian kitsch. I was totally ALL over it. And now it's all over our tree.

After we got back from Yosemite, we scored some new/old antique furniture for the house, which was looking pretty barren.

The new stuff kinda coordinates with the sofa...

This is my favorite piece of furniture ever. Its Victorian and I placed a Ouija board under the glass. I have had it since after college.

The new furniture purchases were necessary to cheer me up after finding a huge hole in the ceiling where the wood rotted underneath. Swell.

New years eve, posing with the mini top hat I made and my new speedlight.

I dressed Viv as tiny Marlene Dietrich for New Years Eve

Happy New Year from the brink
Odds are you have been spammed by this photo if I know you in real life, but if not, that's our New Years greeting from Yosemite :)

Xmas morning, after opening gifts and getting dressed

The day after Christmas we drove up to Yosemite where we rented a cabin. And IT SNOWED!

So we went on a sleigh ride in the forest

during which the pugs were miserable. We had Ping, Lucy and this rescue pug, Kiwi, with us on the trip.

Lucy (who has extra thin fur) got a stylish (and reversible) puffer vest for Xmas in preparation for the trip. She made this cute rustling sound wherever she went.

And I have been knitting the shit out of the Snowflake Cardigan (see last post). It wont have snowflakes on it though, it will have pirate skulls. Arrrr!

Since Halloween we went to Atlanta, North Carolina, exhibited Tartlette wares at Pipsqueak a Go-Go, threw a birthday party for the girls (complete with farm animal petting zoo), had Thanksgiving and got sick. I'm still working on the sick part. I'm just posting some of the past month's pics, they say more than I can.

My New Head
I scored this creepy child's hairstyling mannequin head the other day. It is dated 1967. We named her Cissy and she will model Tartlette hair accessories when I'm at shows. Do come say "Hello" if you see her.

Nicholas A. Pepe, Sr.
Retired Carpenter/Craftsman
Nicholas A. Pepe, Sr. died peacefully at Norwalk Hospital on Tuesday evening at the age of 92. He was born in Yonkers, NY and spent his youth in Southport, CT. However, he lived most of his life in Norwalk where he built his house in 1939. His father, Philip, who immigrated from Italy, taught him to be a skilled carpenter and craftsman. Nick’s first job in Norwalk was working on the old General Putnam Inn. He also helped to restore other historical buildings including Norwalk’s Old Town Hall and the Lockwood-Mathews Mansion.
During World War II, he worked for General Aircraft where he helped to build airplanes. He was a talented mechanic and loved to restore and repair things, making parts from scratch when required. He had a good sense of humor and loved to tell stories and jokes. He was a member of Carpenter’s Union Local 210 and the Redmen.
His wife of 50 years, Antoinette “Toni” Reitano Pepe, passed away in May 1998. He is survived by a son, Nicholas, Jr., a daughter, Mary Frances, a granddaughter, Jennifer and two great granddaughters.

I am taking 3 sewing classes this spring and one of them is an advanced tailoring class. Behold my welt pocket making skills! Wait... crap. Ok, you will have to wait until next week to behold them as the photo I took came out lousy. Sigh. The pocket looks spiffy though. Take my word for it.
Instead you may behold some cuteness, if kids are your thing. If not, I threw in a bonus pug photo. Everyone likes bonus pugs. Especially when said bonus pug is sitting atop a ginormous leopard teddy bear.

After a long battle, Lucy finally defeats Big Bear

Happy Halloween!
Best day of the year!
I finished Evie's Bat girl costume (it was her idea, I SWEAR! she's so cool) but I never finished my spider witch dress. So I'm just going to wear some taupe pantyhose and tie an old cardigan around my head and be Little Edie from Grey Gardens.
Here's Evie's "everyday" Halloween dress that I made.

Teatro Zinzanni
Our friends Scott and Jen (comedians and founders of the 1812 Theatre Company in Philadelphia) came to visit last weekend. Their friend Frank Ferrante is starring in Teatro Zinzanni at Pier 29 so we went and it was fabulous! It was like an up close and personal Cirque du Soleil show, but funnier and with dinner. The coolest part had to be watching the aerial ballet and realizing that the dancer was my friend Erica from NYU! It was crazy. So we hung out after the show and met a lot of the performers and had a great time. Despite the fact that we all look very skeptical of the photographer here...

"Lipstick!" says the Glamour Girl in Training.

Evie has my fashion sense.
She goes in here and says "Bye bye mommy! Evie go now! Bye bye!" then "Hi Mommy! Evie back now!" Its like her portal to some alternate universe. Or maybe its just the pot and pan cupboard. But its cute!

I have a fat little baby! With a mohawk!

Finally got the pictures off my camera, though the majority of these were nicked from Moe because she took better photos and my camera is an ass. We met Jenny and Joey up at Rancho Nicasio to see Big Sandy play.

My Sweetheart

Evie finally got to wear her cute red and leopard dress on Saturday. it was supposed to be for Christmas, but she was too small for it back in December. It even came with a matching garter for mom! Wasn’t that thoughtful of the designer?
. . .
Whoops! I was just informed that the ”garter” is actually a baby headband. Silly me ;)

Dressin’ up the various critters

Evie’s Christmas Eve sleeper outfit. The leopard and red velvet dress didn’t quite fit her yet so I have to wait for her to model it. She looks a bit surly here, doesn’t she?
Ping is the Pug PROS Rescue holiday pinup girl in her Santa suit. Lucy was sulking behind the sofa in her reindeer antlers, probably wishing for thumbs so she could set fire to them.

I find myself lacking in both sleep and wit lately so here are some cute pug and baby photos. I got something for everyone.

Mink-seeking missiles. Its not real mink, but a faux throw I got for the bed. The pugs were all over it like a cheap suit. Note the smug look on Ping and the glare from Lucy that says ”Move me and I’ll whizz on your pillow.”

Evie in her duckie PJ’s. Yeah, I know. Not much action in baby pictures. She’s a lady of leisure like her mum.

WTC 1994

I was putting away a huge box of photographs and found this one from my senior year at NYU. It was September of 1994 and my pal Neil and I took the train to Jersey to visit his mom. It was Wigstock day and it was the first (or second?) year that they had it at the Piers so there was an army of drag queens heading from the East Village over to the west side with us. On the way I took some photos of the city, including this one of Battery Park and the WTC from the Jersey side of the Hudson.
